Box Board Canvas — 40mm Deep Edge

Box Board Canvas — 40mm Deep Edge

The canvas you reach for when the surface needs to stay still. Forty-millimetre deep edge, 300gsm 100% PET stretched — not glued — over a 3mm HDF backing. No flex under palette knife. No bounce under heavy impasto. No dent under fine liners. Fabric folded — never cut — at the corners. Built in 2019 for large-scale graffiti work, then sought out by pastel and charcoal artists for the same reason oil painters keep coming back: the surface holds.

"I get a lovely, stable, solid, beautiful substrate with the ACF Box Board Canvas. All worries about flexing, denting or movement are completely gone, even when I’m working with heavy texture and thick impasto. It’s the perfect rigid support that lets me focus entirely on creating."

Built for control under pressure

  • Rigid backing with no canvas bounce
  • Flat surface for cleaner detail and control
  • Handles heavier texture with confidence
  • Strong support for mixed media techniques
  • Ready to paint straight away

What 100% PET on rigid HDF changes.

  • Most rigid panels are glued to board. Box Board is stretched over the HDF - a true canvas with the stability of a panel.
  • Cotton and linen react to humidity. PET doesn't - the surface stays consistent regardless of climate.
  • The backing is 3mm HDF - pressed and moisture resistant. No chipboard, no warping, no swelling.
  • Manufactured end-to-end in our own factory - proprietary fabric, proprietary coating, proprietary build.
  • All paintings should have backing boards - that's official Canadian Conservation Institute guidance. Box Board Canvas has it built in.

Tired of bounce flex and surface movement

  • Some canvases flex when you apply pressure
  • Surface movement can make detail work harder
  • Heavy paint can expose weakness in the support
  • Dents and bounce can interrupt your flow
  • Too much give can ruin the painting feel

Questions artists ask

Do I need to prime or gesso this canvas before painting?

Yes. The 3mm HDF backing is pressed and moisture resistant - it won't warp, swell or lose rigidity. The 100% PET canvas doesn't react to humidity the way cotton or linen does, so tension stays where you set it. Independent research at the Victoria & Albert Museum found polyester showed no measurable loss of strength under museum conditions equivalent to 80 years of display.

Will the surface stay still and rigid over time?

Yes. The rigid HDF board backing prevents flexing and denting that happens with standard canvases. Artists regularly use thick paint, texture paste, acrylic markers and palette knives with excellent results.

Can I use oils, acrylics, fine liners and heavy texture on this canvas?

Yes. The 300gsm PET surface holds oil evenly, takes acrylics cleanly, and the rigid HDF backing supports fine liners, acrylic markers, palette knife and impasto without bouncing or denting. Charcoal and soft pastels work well too - the rigid surface prevents the shock that causes pigments to flake off.

How many canvases come in a pack, and what sizes are available?

Box Board Canvas is sold in packs of 2. Sizes range from small study formats up to 1000mm × 1000mm (40″ × 40″). Every canvas in the pack is matched in finish and rigidity.
