Paint without thinking about framing.

  • Framing is done before you paint - when the painting dries, it's ready for the wall
  • Canvas off the frame in four screws - paint stays on the canvas, never on the oak
  • Slim oak profile - stepping back so the painting takes the room
  • Stain it, oil it, paint it, or leave it raw - oak veneer ages naturally either way

What a slim oak floating frame changes.

  • The artwork arrives framed in a slim 23mm oak profile - canvas and frame in one purchase, matched and square.
  • The canvas removes from the frame in four screws - paint stays on the canvas, never on the oak.
  • Made end-to-end in our own factory — proprietary fabric, proprietary coating, proprietary strainer, and the slim floating frame to match.
  • Polyester durability has been independently studied: the Victoria & Albert Museum found no measurable loss of strength under museum conditions equivalent to 80 years of display.

What separate framing has been costing.

  • Some canvases still need extra framing after painting
  • Cheap presentation can let strong artwork down
  • Heavier frame styles do not suit every piece
  • Finishing and hanging can become another job
  • A clean painting deserves a cleaner finish

  • 260gsm 100% PET artist canvas with ACF's proprietary gesso coating
  • 20mm deep-edge canvas profile on an MDF strainer system
  • Bevelled MDF strainer edges to prevent surface lines under brushwork
  • Frame core: engineered particle board - chosen because solid hardwood warps unpredictably

  • Saw tooth bracket supplied (loose) - fitted by the artist before hanging
  • Wood passes international Customs phytosanitary requirements
  • Made in South Africa
  • Traditional canvas

    • Can feel unfinished once the painting is done
    • Often still needs separate framing
    • Presentation can be inconsistent from piece to piece
    • Hanging can need extra effort
    • Standard canvas edges do not always suit display spaces
  • ACF Thin Edge Oak Combo

    • Canvas and slim oak frame designed and made together - matched and square on arrival
    • One purchase covers both the painting surface and the slim gallery-ready frame
    • 23mm slim profile - frames the work without taking the visual attention
    • Oak veneer over engineered particle board - won't warp with age
    • The framing is already done - fit the supplied saw tooth bracket, hang it on the wall

Questions artists ask

Do I need to prime or gesso this canvas before painting?

No. The canvas arrives pre-coated with our proprietary gesso, ready to paint straight from the frame — for oils, acrylics, mixed media and fluid art. You can apply additional gesso if your technique calls for it, but it isn't required. TIP: For oils, mixing mineral turps and linseed oil into your underpainting works particularly well on this surface.

What makes this different from the deep edge oak version

Three things: the canvas, the frame, and the hanging. The Thin Edge uses our 20mm Stretch Canvas (260gsm PET on an MDF strainer) in a slim 23mm oak profile - designed to frame lighter work without overpowering it. The Deep Edge uses our 40mm Box Board Canvas (300gsm PET stretched over a 3mm HDF backing for a rigid surface) in a thicker oak profile that suits chunky or heavily textured pieces. Both share the same proprietary canvas system underneath and the same 4-screw Phillips canvas-to-frame attachment. The Thin Edge ships with a loose saw tooth bracket the artist fits before hanging

Will the canvas and frame stay stable over time?

Yes. The PET fabric doesn't react to humidity the way cotton or linen does, so tension stays where you set it. The MDF strainer system is dimensionally stable — no pine warping. The oak veneer floating frame uses an engineered particle board core, chosen because solid hardwood warps unpredictably. Independent research at the Victoria & Albert Museum found polyester showed no measurable loss of strength under museum conditions equivalent to 80 years of display.

How many canvases and frames come in a pack, and what sizes are available?

The Thin Edge Oak Combo is sold in pairs — 2 canvases and 2 oak floating frames, matched and square on arrival. Sizes go up to 500mm × 500mm or A1 (594mm × 841mm). Each canvas is pre-drilled and pre-screwed into its matching frame, attached with four Phillips screws. A saw tooth bracket is supplied loose for the artist to fit to the back of the frame before hanging.
