"The frames are thick, chunky, completely square and true. I have not painted on better in 40 years of working."

Framed before you paint. Framed when the paint dries.

  • No framing trip after the painting is done - the work hangs the moment the paint is dry
  • Canvas off the frame in four screws - paint stays on the canvas, never on the frame
  • HDF backing under the PET surface - no flex under palette knife, fine liner, or detail work
  • Stain it, oil it, paint it, or leave it raw - the oak veneer ages naturally either way

What an oak floating frame changes.

  • The artwork arrives framed - canvas and oak frame in one purchase, matched and square.
  • The canvas removes from the frame in four screws - paint stays on the canvas, never on the oak.
  • Oak veneer over engineered particle board - solid hardwood warps unpredictably, even in our own factory.
  • Made end-to-end in our own factory — proprietary fabric, proprietary coating, proprietary strainer, and the floating frame to match.
  • Polyester durability has been independently studied: the Victoria & Albert Museum found no measurable loss of strength under museum conditions equivalent to 80 years of display.

What separate framing has been costing.

  • Finding the right frame for the work - endless research, endless mismatches.
  • The painting sits waiting for the framer - the queue, the deadline, the bill.
  • Cheap framing looks cheap. Premium framing eats the margin.
  • Solid wood frames warp after purchase - even the expensive ones.
  • Two suppliers, two timelines, two quality risks - for one finished piece.

The build.

  • 300gsm 100% PET artist canvas with ACF's proprietary gesso coating
  • 40mm deep-edge profile - canvas stretched (not glued) over a 3mm HDF backing
  • Pre-prepared and ready to paint - no priming required for most mediums
  • White oak veneer floating frame - 43mm depth, 16mm wide profile
  • Frame core: engineered particle board - over 40% lighter than the original MDF design
  • Canvas pre-drilled and pre-screwed into the frame - removes and refits in four Phillips screws
  • Sold in pairs: 2 canvases + 2 frames, matched and square on arrival
  • Wood passes international Customs phytosanitary requirements
  • Manufactured in South Africa
  • Traditional canvas

    • Canvas from one supplier, frame from another - fit and finish never guaranteed
    • Framing cost added to every finished piece - small numbers stack into thousands
    • Painting waits at the framer while it could already be hanging
    • Cheap frames warp. Premium frames eat the margin. Solid hardwood is unpredictable either way.
    • Removing the painting from the frame for touch-ups risks edge damage and overspill
  • ACF Deep Edge Oak Combo

    • Canvas and oak frame designed and made together - matched and square on arrival
    • One purchase covers both the painting surface and the gallery-ready frame
    • Hangs the moment the paint dries - no framing trip, no queue
    • Oak veneer over engineered particle board - won't warp with age
    • Canvas removes in four Phillips screws - paint stays on the canvas, never on the oak

Questions artists ask

Do I need to prime or gesso this canvas before painting?

No. The canvas arrives pre-coated with our proprietary gesso, ready to paint straight from the frame — for oils, acrylics, mixed media and fluid art. You can apply additional gesso if your technique calls for it, but it isn't required. TIP: For oils, mixing mineral turps and linseed oil into your underpainting works particularly well on this surface.

Will the canvas and frame stay stable over time?

Yes. The PET fabric doesn't react to humidity the way cotton or linen does, so tension stays where you set it. The strainer is MDF and the canvas is stretched over a 3mm HDF backing — both dimensionally stable. The oak veneer floating frame uses an engineered particle board core, chosen because solid hardwood warps unpredictably. Independent research at the Victoria & Albert Museum found polyester showed no measurable loss of strength under museum conditions equivalent to 80 years of display.

Can the canvas be removed from the frame

Yes. The Box Board Canvas can be removed from the outer frame if needed, which gives you more flexibility than a permanently fixed framed piece.

How many canvases and frames come in a pack, and their final sizes?

The Deep Edge Oak Combo is sold in pairs — 2 canvases and 2 oak floating frames, matched and square on arrival. Sizes range from A5 (148mm × 210mm) up to 1000mm × 1000mm. Each canvas is pre-drilled and pre-screwed into its matching frame, ready to hang or remove with a standard Phillips screwdriver. The sizes are for the canvas, the frame's final sizes are +42mm on the L and +42mm W - the frame height is 44mm.
